My Beginning in Veganism
It probably seems like a bit of an odd combination, "web developer" and "vegan", but in fact, the 2 are quite entwined for me.
I went vegan in October of 2019 after returning home from SmashingConf NY. It was my first time in New York City, and my wife and I had visited a vegan sushi restaurant called Beyond Sushi.
At the time, I had cut out all meat besides fish already, and still consumed dairy. Eating at Beyond Sushi made it finally click in my head that I didn't need to give anything up to live my life in line with my morals. We returned there to eat once more before we left, and I began working through the feelings I was having about the choices I make on a daily basis.
At the airport on our way home I ordered a personal pizza for dinner, and immediately after doing so, began to think about what I was supporting. I sat there eating a pizza covered in mozzarella cheese and felt worse with each bite. The next meal I ate was several hours later during our layover. It was a container of noodles that had a "certified vegan" label on it, and since then I've done my best to cut all animal products out of my life. For the record, the noodles tasted way better than the pizza (though that was partially because the airport pizza was particularly bad).
I plan to expand on this section of my website to be a resource for information and statistics surrounding veganism that I find important.
